This study is being done to significantly enhance our understanding of the role of the gut bacteria in health and disease in order to learn and understand as much as possible about the different types of chronic intestinal illnesses. The study concentrates on the different types of IBD, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
(1) Crohn’s disease: A condition that causes “inflammation” which is swelling, redness, soreness, in different parts of the intestines; either the large intestine only, the small intestine only or both.
(2) Ulcerative colitis: A condition that causes “inflammation” which is swelling, redness and soreness in the lining of the large intestine (colon) only.
