Lay Summary: As therapeutic and recreational cannabis use increases in Canada post-legalization, youth (high-school and post-secondary students) are commonly exposed to conflicting messages about cannabis, including mixed information surrounding its benefits, risks, and overall societal impact. These conflicting messages put young people at risk of irresponsible cannabis use and subsequent adverse mental and physical health effects. Understanding youth opinions, perceptions, and knowledge about cannabis in an open focus group setting can provide valuable insights into the patterns and factors influencing their attitudes toward cannabis, the accuracy of their knowledge, their behaviour, and their decision-making processes. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors influencing young peoples’ views on cannabis in the hopes of developing targeted educational interventions promoting accurate information, inform public health initiatives, and influence policy development surrounding cannabis use in Canada.
