Hajer Nakua

Scientist, CHEO Research Institute

Dr Hajer Nakua is a neuroimaging Scientist with the CHEO RI’s Precision Child Youth Mental Health (PCYMH) Collaboratory.

Her research aims to understand the neurobiological mechanism underlying the transmission of psychiatric symptoms from one generation to the next. Dr. Nakua’s research involves the application of multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques along with neuropsychological data. Combining her methodological expertise with her clinical interests, Dr. Nakua’s research program at CHEO examine MRI-derived neurobiological markers and mechanisms involved in the intergenerational transmission of psychiatry. Dr. Nakua’s research will capitalize on interdisciplinary research including multimodal neuroimaging, advanced statistics, and diverse clinical populations to identify families at a high risk of transmitting psychiatric symptoms to children with the ultimate goal of developing novel interventions to mitigate this transmission.
