Core Innovation, powered by the CHEO Research Institute, is welcoming its largest Invention Studio Session cohort to date – bringing together nine companies who are developing breakthrough solutions in diagnostics, training, and AI enabled care delivery.
The Invention Studio Session supports early-stage innovators from across Canada by providing structured mentorship, targeted problem validation, clinical collaboration opportunities, and exposure to CHEO’s innovation ecosystem. This cohort of founders are tackling some of the most pressing challenges in health care delivery: diagnostic delays, educator shortages, fragmented patient information, and the administrative burden clinicians face. The Canadian companies selected to join the Invention Studio Session showcase creativity, technical depth, and patient centred innovation – each committed to improving the lives of children, youth, and their families.
Meet the companies
FMRK Diagnostic Technologies Inc.
FMRK is enabling data backed early intervention for patients with suspected Urinary Tract Infection by developing a near patient antibiotic susceptibility testing device for use in community settings. This enables patients to receive the proper narrow spectrum antibiotic on the same day symptoms begin, without having to visit the doctor’s office or the emergency department.
Helatris Inc.
Helatris is addressing diagnostic variability by developing a differential diagnostics solution that generates context-aware differentials, diagnostics, and treatments from patient data. This enables physicians to better switch between contexts and manage the social interaction with patients, ultimately improving patient outcomes and reducing turnover.
Aequilibrium addresses the critical shortage of floor-ready clinical placements by providing an AI-driven VR training platform that empowers clinical students to access immersive, standardized and safe “just-in-time” interval practice. This enables them to anchor psychomotor, emotional and cognitive skills for long-term active recall, effectively ‘inoculating’ them against the high-pressure in-hospital stress on Day 1 and lightening the load on existing personnel.
Aimed
Aimed is addressing fragmented homecare workflows by developing an AI Clinical Documentation Co-Pilot for Homecare that allows for live translations & workflow optimization. This enables homecare providers to chart with greater speed and accuracy, ultimately improving their efficiency and patient satisfaction.
ReferoLink Solutions Inc.
ReferoLink is addressing the allied healthcare referral problem by developing an efficient workflow-integrated referral system that enables doctors to connect their patients to allied healthcare professionals (AHPs). This will result in patients being referred to AHPs that best fit their health, economic and social needs in an effort to improve access to care, increase volume of referrals and reduce the administrative burden on doctors and medical office assistants.
Intellicube Health Studio Inc.
A family gets a new diagnosis, and they’re expected to absorb everything while they’re stressed and exhausted. Printed handouts get lost. Google searches create confusion. One-time teaching doesn’t stick. Intellicube extends your education beyond the appointment. A micro-learning platform that converts trusted, clinically reviewed medical content, into guided, plain-language, interactive learning journeys families can replay anytime, in formats that stick. The result is more consistent understanding, confidence, and follow-through after a diagnosis.
Syncara is a digital health platform that gives individuals a secure place to organize and access their complete medical history. The platform transforms fragmented health information into a portable personal health record that stays with patients wherever care happens.
Large Blue Systems Inc.
Large Blue Systems is transforming dermatology through advanced image enhancement technology combined with AI capabilities This enables dermatologists and clinics to confidently make remote diagnosis, ultimately improving scalability and quality of virtual dermatologic care.
Clinical Intelligence AI Inc.
Clinic Intelligence AI eliminates pre-charting by gathering and structuring patient history ahead of time, generating clinical summaries tailored to each clinician’s preferences before they walk into the room. It’s like having a physician assistant without the overhead — saving 20–30 minutes per consult so clinicians can focus on decision-making.
The road ahead
The CHEO Research Institute’s Core Innovation is excited to support these nine companies over the next six months as they validate, refine, and scale their technologies in collaboration with CHEO clinicians, researchers, and innovation partners.
