Accelerating health-tech innovation from idea to impact
The Invention Stream is the CHEO Research Institute’s Core Innovation support pathway for Canada’s earliest-stage health-tech ventures. While many programs wait until companies have traction, Core Invention supports founders while their technology is still developing. This early support ensures that real health problems are being addressed and that these businesses are set up to succeed. The Core Invention team understands the realities of building in health tech, and we are here to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and speed.
Who should apply?
We work with Canadian-based teams developing digital health tools or digitally enabled medical devices improving access to care and enabling care at home. We work with wellness products as well as Class I or II regulated technologies between Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3–6.
Whether you are validating the problem you are solving or refining your minimal viable product (MVP) to gain early traction, the Invention Stream is designed to meet you where you are.
What you will get

Your Invention Journey
The Invention Stream provides a structured, staged pathway to help early-stage health-tech ventures move from concept towards commercialization. The Invention Bootcamp is the fast-paced entry point that stress tests the assumptions of the business.
Top-performing Bootcamp teams will be selected to join a 6-month cohort-based program that dives deeper into problem and customer discovery, articulating the unique value proposition that will unlock success.
